Boleslaus (znany jako William) Manterys urodził się w Chicago, USA. Podczas II Wojny Światowej służył w Marynarce Wojennej USA i by na spisie załogi okrętu SS Samuel Jordan Kirkwood, który, przewożąc w 1943 roku 10,000 ton paliwa dla czołgów w Afryce Północnej przez Morze Atlantyckie, został trafiony torpedą niemieckiej łodzi podwodnej U-195. Boleslaus został uratowany przez okręt SS Santa Teresa, który płynął z Takoradi w Ghanie do Nowego Jorku, dokąd dopłynął 4 lipca 1943 roku Możliwe, że w tym okresie Boleslaus był też w Niemczech, ponieważ nieznany nam bliżej Manterys z USA starał się nawiązać z nim kontakt i z rodziną ojca w Polsce.

Boleslaus (aka William) Manterys was born in Chicago, USA.
He served in the US Merchant Marine in WWII and was listed on the ship SS Samuel Jordan Kirkwood. In 1943, after delivering more than 10,000 tons of fuel for tanks in North Africa and making its way across the Atlantic, his ship was torpedoed by a German submarine U-195 and lost off Ascension Island.
Boleslaus survived and was rescued by the SS Santa Teresa, which was sailing from the Takoradi, Ghana, in June 1943 to New York and arrived there on 4 July 1943.
It is possible that during this time he passed through Germany, as it is known that a Manterys from the USA tried to make contact from there with his father’s family in Poland.
